Quizzes in Google Forms: 12 Days of Hanutech, Day 11

Google Forms now gives teachers the ability to create self-grading quizzes. You enter the questions and the answer key, students take the quiz online, and bam! Instant assessment!


  1. Go to your Google Drive
  2. Click the blue NEW button, hover over More > and then choose Google Forms
  3. Create the Google Form as usual, including questions with multiple choice or checkbox formats.


    Best Practices Tips:
    – number your questions. This makes it easier for students to track their progress while taking the quiz, and for review afterwards.
    – add a question where students enter their name (just in case of any log in issues)

    Note: You can also add text- or paragraph-based questions, but they will not be auto-graded. You would have to come back and ready them one by one.

  1. In the top right-corner, click the three dots, and choose Settings. There are three “tabs” at the top, called “General,” “Presentation,” and “Quizzes.” Set these settings:


General
  • CHECK Collect email address
  • UNCheck Response receipts
  • CHECK Restrict to Holliston Public Schools users
  • Limit to 1 response: your choice
  • UNCheck Edit after submit
  • UNCheck See summary charts and text responses
Presentation
  • UNCheck shuffle question order
  • UNCheck show link to submit another response
  • If desired, change the confirmation message.
Quizzes
  • Turn ON Make this a quiz
  • Release grade: your choice (This determines when students get their quiz grade)
  • Respondent can see: UNCheck missed and correct (otherwise they can screenshot and share)
Click SAVE

  1. Go back to your quiz questions and click a question. At the bottom of the question, click Answer Key
    .
    1. Choose the correct answer(s) .
    2. In the top right corner, assign the question a point value.
    3. Repeat for all questions in the quiz.
  2. Send to your students: Along the top, click the Send icon (it looks like a paper airplane).
    1. Click the link icon (the middle one) and then copy the URL link.
    2. Open Google Classroom, Moodle, or whatever, and paste the link for students to see.
